1) How many empty KeyKegs fit on one pallet?
2) How many filled KeyKegs Baseline or Slimline fit on one pallet?
3) Which beers can go into a KeyKeg?
Any style of beer can be filled into a KeyKeg. Some of our customers even age lambics, imperial stouts and other beers in the KeyKeg with great results. Forced carbonation of the beer is not possible in a KeyKeg. Under the right conditions, secondary fermentation is possible, but it is important that the CO2 content does not rise too far. Contact us for more information on measuring the CO2 content in a KeyKeg.
4) What is the difference between a KeyKeg Baseline and a Slimline?
The KeyKeg Baseline is round with a single wall shell and cardboard outer packaging. The KeyKeg Slimline is cylindrical and has a double wall shell. The KeyKeg Slimline is the latest generation of KeyKegs and has improved logistical characteristics and a higher resistance to pressure. KeyKeg Slimlines can withstand internal pressures up to 7 grams of CO2 per liter (3.5 volumes). Download the technical specifications of the Baseline and Slimline here.
5) How long will an empty KeyKeg keep?
Unfilled KeyKegs will last at least 18 months.
6) Manual filling: should I vent a KeyKeg and/or flush it before filling?
In order to minimize oxygen uptake, we recommend that you vent the KeyKeg with a coupler before filling. For optimum filling, it is advisable to rinse the inner bag with CO2. It is not necessary to fill the bag entirely with CO2. Flushing with 5 liters of CO2 is enough. After that, the CO2 should be removed with a coupler. See also the instructions for manual filling.
7) What is the maximum pressure for a KeyKeg?
The maximum dispensing pressure is 3.5 bar / 51 PSI. The safety valve on every KeyKeg coupler prevents higher dispensing pressures. The maximum pressures for transport and storage are:
KeyKeg Baseline 20, 30 litre: 4 bar at 40 Celsius °C/104 Fahrenheit °F
KeyKeg Slimline 10, 20, 30 litre: 6 bar at 40 Celsius °C/104 Fahrenheit °F
8) Is a KeyKeg moisture-proof?
The cardboard of the KeyKeg Baseline softens under damp conditions. We advise you to store KeyKegs in a dry place and to regulate the temperature. Where damp conditions are unavoidable, we recommend KeyKeg Slimlines.
9) Can a KeyKeg be filled on an existing line for steel kegs?
This depends on the manufacturer and the type of filling line. Contact your supplier directly about the possibilities. On the KeyKeg website, you will find some suppliers of filling lines who manufacture filling machines for KeyKegs.
10) What kind of coupler is a KeyKeg fitted with?
All KeyKegs are fitted with a modified GR coupler. The probe has been modified so that it works perfectly with the KeyKeg Bag-in-Ball ™ technology. This technology separates the dispensing gas from the beverage. The KeyKeg couplers can be ordered directly from our webshop.
11) Where and how can I order KeyKegs and accessories?
You can order any of the accessories and small quantities of KeyKegs (depending on the size, 6 to 8 units) via the KeyKeg webshop, your online Netstore account or by e-mail to your account manager.

12) How sustainable is the KeyKeg?
13) What does the Double Wall™ Technology do?
Every KeyKeg Slimline is fitted with a double wall of PET. The 2 layers work together dynamically making the KeyKeg Slimline safer and more robust. A KeyKeg Slimline can take higher pressures and is more resistant to damage during handling operations such as filling, storage, transport and dispensing. Every KeyKeg Slimline is tested to 7 bar / 101 PSI. An independent research institute, VLB, has tested the properties of KeyKeg Slimlines extensively.
14) How long does beer stay fresh in a KeyKeg?
In proper storage conditions, beer stays fresh as long as in a steel keg. Depending on the qualities, the type of beer and the alcohol content, possibly longer. Other factors that play a role are pasteurization and the quality of the filling procedure.
15) How long does beer stay fresh when the KeyKeg is tapped?
After tapping, beer will stay fresh in a KeyKeg for 3-4 weeks on average. The shelf life of the beer naturally depends on the type of beer, storage conditions and cleanliness of the draft system.
16) How should I clean my dispensing lines as a KeyKeg user?
You can clean the lines the same way you normally would by connecting a KeyKeg cleaning adaptor. Connect the KeyKeg coupler with the adaptor to a cleaning canister or the existing cleaning system. You will find the accessories you need for this in the KeyKeg webshop.
17) Can I send empty KeyKegs for recycling with the normal waste?
KeyKegs are 100% recyclable when empty. You can give your empty KeyKegs to your local recycling processor – if they have questions, refer them to Lightweight Containers: +31 (0) 223-760760 or firstname.lastname@example.org
18) Where can I order filled KeyKegs?
You will find the brewers and beverage distributors who are working with KeyKeg on our KeyKeg Users platform. You can contact them directly, or you can ask your existing suppliers to deliver your beers in KeyKeg.
19) When dispensing, only foam comes out of the tap – what should I do?
This can result from a number of causes such as secondary fermentation and improper filling. Lightweight Containers has created an instruction video showing how to mitigate problems with foam. Click here to see the video.
20) How can I recycle a KeyKeg?
The first step is to deflate the keg using the KeyKeg deflating tool. Then flatten the KeyKeg and deposit it with other recyclables. Keep the deflating tool for the next time. This instruction video shows the recycling process.
We take our environment into account, even during the design phase. A KeyKeg more than meets European Union environmental criteria. The KeyKeg Slimline will eventually be made from over 50% recycled PET, and our goal is to recycle every KeyKeg to produce new KeyKegs.Read more
