Safety testing KeyKegs

11/28/16

Keg lanceert binnenzak bij vuur.jpg

Under the supervision of Dutch firefighting professionals, Lightweight Containers has studied the behavior of several empty KeyKegs that caught fire in a container. Although the behavior of a single KeyKeg had already been tested, we had not tested a group of them together. A group of KeyKegs were tested in a fire-proof container, under pressures ranging from 0.5 to 4 bar.

Performance under fire
The firefighting professionals were satisfied with the results. Rudolf Brouwer, from the region of North Holland’s own fire department says ”The KeyKegs were relatively calm. The amount of energy released was about what you’d expect, given how plastics behave, but the material of the bursting KeyKegs spread out over a short distance and the burning mass remained compact.” If you would like more information about KeyKeg safety or this study, please contact the R&D department of Lightweight Containers at info@keykeg.com.

The environmentally friendly one-way keg

We take our environment into account, even during the design phase. A KeyKeg more than meets European Union environmental criteria. The KeyKeg Slimline will eventually be made from over 50% recycled PET, and our goal is to recycle every KeyKeg to produce new KeyKegs.
