Basqueland increases capacity and standardises KeyKeg

With a semi-automated KeyKeg-filling Machine from m+f KEG-Technik, Basqueland introduces better quality management, increases throughput and saves time.

Award-winning craft-beer pioneer Basqueland hit the Basque Country's vibrant culinary scene in 2015 and has grown ever since. Named Best Brewery Spain three times, Basqueland also became the first brewery to win the prestigious Barcelona Beer Challenge's Best Brewery award for two consecutive years in 2022, successfully defending the title against hundreds of world-class breweries. Basqueland's reputation for exceptional brewing creates increasing demand for its high-quality beer across the region and throughout Spain, Europe and beyond.

In 2021 Basqueland produced 6,200 hL (3,900 bbl) of beer, but production is planned to reach 8,000 hL (5,032 bbl) this year with two new fermenters. Basqueland distributes draught beer in KeyKeg, so an important step towards expanding capacity at the brewery in Gipuzkoa was installing a KeyKeg-filling machine. By improving working methods and adding more process efficiency, Basqueland also introduces better quality management, saves time, increases sustainability and ensures more beer reaches consumers as fresh as possible.

Together with advice, installation and commissioning from KeyKeg-filling machine specialist m+f KEG-Technik, Basqueland acquired a MICROMAT M 2/2 Hybrid, which fills up to 50 (30 L) or 60 (20 L) KeyKegs per hour automatically with manual loading of empty and filled Kegs. Basqueland can now increase throughput, filling KeyKegs consistently without foaming using the machine's volumetric flowmeter, while also maintaining correct pressure and perfect microbiological results. And with m+f KEG-Technik's 24/7 support, Basqueland can continue to produce, keg and distribute fresh, high-quality, perfectly served beer with peace of mind.

Stephen Martin, Packaging Specialist, Basqueland: "Basqueland is happy to be working with KeyKeg and m+f KEG-Technik in meeting our production goals whilst maintaining the highest quality that our customers have come to expect."

Peter Mackenrodt, CEO, m+f KEG-Technik: "The Basqueland team were looking for quality and flexibility, which they found in the combination of OneCircle and m+f KEG-Technik, Dutch and German partners who have worked together on customer-driven solutions for almost 25 years."
